Ok, I realize I've compensated stress with shopping at the beginning of the year quite a bit. Here's another trip to the sales done couple of weeks ago, forgot to post these... The white shirt is exactly what I've had on my mind to do as a DIY, but when I saw this I couldn't resist (even though it wasn't on sales like the others). Have to say my close relative had a healt-scare and I've been/am also too tired to write/post anything reasonable. But I want to add I'm super happy of all you showing interest in these experiments and sorts of mine! :)

It's super freezing over here, one has to dress like a true arctic wanderer to survive outside... :) Here's what I wore a week or so back when it was cold but nothing compared to this. The dress is thick and woolen, perfect to stay warm (and impossible to wear when it's warmer). I found it of one of those wanders to my mom's closet.
Thought that the dress would be quite suitable to try out that 40's trend, check pattern on the other hand is quite grunge.

Hope you had fun weekend! Mine started well with dinner with friends and here's what I wore to the occasion. Rest of the weekend wasn't as fun, I needed to work with one side project the whole weekend. It's a fun and interesting project, but it just takes quite a bit of time to finish. So still no time to finish DIY's. But that's enough with the rant.
The necklace is made out of fabric roses. I like it a lot, but for some reason haven't worn it that much (maybe I've stuck with my idea of wearing it as a headband, as I first did when I bought it). The skirt has had similar fate, haven't worn it this winter that much (no reason here either). I like how heavy it is, there's quite a bit of fabric. It would be fun to just swirl around!

Found this dress from my mom's closet, I guess it's from the 80's. (Dare I say there's something marcjacobs-y with the shirt dress?!) It's nice woolen fabric, very suitable for winter time. I through my fur vest on top for chillier moments. Now looking at these pics from a couple of days back, everything seems so super sweet, maybe I should have thrown in something with a bit of rock attitude. Does the golden vintage belt count? :)

O-ou, more shoes... I totally broke my new year's resolution of buying only items I really need. Well, I do kinda need silver flats as my old ones are totally worn-out. (yep, it is possible to wear silver flats to an end.)
I managed to squeeze in some retail therapy time after a day of seminar and, boy, it was good on the sales. Got the shoes and the softer than feather gap from Zara, the rings are from Weekday. I got a bunch of other stuff from Weekday too, it was minus 75% at the best... But more of those on another post. Now at bit of extra work to do. I also have a couple of DIYs on the way, hope to finish those soon so I could finally show those here.

I attended my friends' graduation party yesterday evening and managed to snap some pics quickly. Both the blouse and the skirt are new. Well, blouse "only" relatively new; I wore it to New Year's too. There's pearls&diamonds studs in the collar and the upper part. The skirt has an interesting hemline too. Quite invisible in the pics. Pity I didn't have time to take close-ups.

The reason for being in a hurry was because I couldn't decide "how" to wear the blouse as the hemline is part of the design and tucked totally under the skirt was nice and very classical, but missed one point of the design of the blouse. I decided to go with half-tucked way, I found it a bit more interesting and suitable for the occasion. So here's a couple of pics of the "classical" way too, what do you think, which way is better?

Another all black outfit I wore to my professions party. (I'm in a serious row!) Actually I've worn this same outfit several times to different occasions; if I recollect right, the first time was to opera in St Petersburg back in spring 2010.
Our net access's been reaaally sticky lately. Yesterday it stopped functioning totally without any reason to fix, I loose my nerves with such problems. Now it seems to be all happy and working again! (Like me) :)

This shirt is new in. I love how air-light the fabric is and the batwing sleeves too. Got it from the sales (Selected Femme) and I've worn it already several times. With skirts and also as favorite just plain black jeans (which are unfortunately bad quality, after wash those are good for one wear and then they get all loose. Suggestions for good black skinny jeans?!).

Wearing also my favorite Marimekko cardigan. The only thing why I don't wear it more often are the (lovely) wide sleeves - they don't fit inside most of my coats.

Wearing HM Trend dress as a shirt, vintage leather skirt from Weekday

Some might have notice that I'm really into wearing color. :) But this doesn't exclude the fact that I admire people who can pull off all-black outfits on a daily base, a lot. It's just that I'm really into colors. :) Something might have to do with my profession, in which people tend to wear only (and I really mean only) black. Especially the older generation of colleagues knows only light beige on top black. So during my studies I involved this habit of not adapting to the well-known uniform of all-black (aka wanted to be different. Don't we all?).
And there's another "but". Whenever I attend any of those more official happenings for my profession I tend to wear more black than usually. And so I'm adapting to the "uniform", blending amongst colleagues and not popping from the crowd with my bright red-pink-blue-younameit-ansembles.
Here's one of those "uniforms", feeling safe. :) I did have to wear something that was a bit more "rock", this time it was leather skirt. Don't really know what those older colleagues (men in black) thought of that.

And not to be too fast, it apparently finally came into realization at the first morning after my vacation, going through piles of clothes, eyes all puffy, my mind not willing to wake up and being reluctant to start the work&routines again. (the colors are right at the close-ups, for some annoying reason the first ones went all green, plah).

This necklace use to belong to my grandma. My mom gave it to me when we were sorting out grandma's estate. I also got loads of clothes I thought could be in good use in the future. We'll see, I need to sort out those first and figure out some outfits which wouldn't end up too-granny-like. :) I have a bit to work to do with my wardrobe as I also found some "new" pieces from my mom's...
The bright red-orange-y blazer's relatively new, got it from HM. The fabric's really smooth and soft. The jeans are DIY bleached. Twice actually. The first time didn't come out quite right (originally these jeans were dark grey), but I think the second time created this ok marble effect.

Usually I'm always excited of the next season and wan't to get early start, sneak-peaks and everything, but now it feels just too early to start thinking about spring trends and clothes as this year the winter's really late and hasn't actually even started. I enjoy all the season we have, I love seeing how the nature changes and how one has to dress according to the weather :). I live in a country with four very clear seasons. But not this year. Last winter was extremely cold and there was a lot of snow and this year it's really warm and grass is still green, why couldn't it be something in between (but with a lot of snow instead of water-y snow we tend to now have)? I'd like to enjoy the heavy winter knits and all. (what a rant, sorry).

This year I and my boyfriend took responsibility for arranging the family christmas for the first time! It was a lot more work than we imagined (and now have a lot more respect and understanding for our parents), but it was also extremely rewarding in so many ways! It was such a joy to see everyone enjoying their time and to be able to give that to them. I was also anxious on having my own christmas tree for the first time (parents live in another town so there hasn't been sense on having one at our place). But that's how last couple of weeks have passed by...
As I also wanted to do all the decorations and not buy any... I started knitting christmas tree decoration balls by a norwegian model by Arne&Carlos, but until the final week prior I had only 6 ready ones... So I decided to buy this light decoration by la case de cousin paul (they have a lot of beautiful colorful choices, but I went with the christmas-y white ones. I need to get some colorful ones for everyday decoration). We bought a real tree from a market close-by, it has really nice natural smell to it.

But the great idea of skipping the decoration with the light decoration balls didn't turn out quite the way I had imagined it, so I started sewing in the very last minute these fabric hearts and other figures.

I was happy with the final result. In the pic behind the tree is also our new christmas curtains which I sew midst all the hurry (crazy me), fabric's by Marimekko.

Hope the ones that celebrate Christmas had a fun and relaxing holidays!

I feel this is a bit of a retake of the earlier outfit despite the fact the only item on both of the outfits is the stripey tights. That's how strongly a similar color palette together with recognizable pattern affect. I have a bit of a peasant theme going on here, unintended though. Maybe it's the stripes, maybe the scarf. Nonetheless, I had fun with the double stripes.

It's been emotionally crazy couple of weeks. I mean, the variety of emotions has been "crazy" - from the celebration of the cutest new-born at her baptism (baby of close relatives) to the death of my grand-mother. Her funeral was held last Saturday. It was a beautiful event, sad of course, but also beautiful. As she had (very) long and good life, it was also a sort of celebration of her life as it was saying goodbye to her.

I've been wandering the streets in my burgundy/raspberry colored hat and getting glances from fellow citizens. You might even say people were staring at me. :) There's three reasons why I don't mind, first of all, I like my hat; second is I think I might have been better dressed than the ones staring at me; and third one is: I can lurk under the wide brim!
The shirt is actually a dress and I'm quite happy I rediscovered it, haven't been wearing it for a while. And the leopard scarf is DIY.

DIY knitted & crocheted

One weekend I got the same urge I always get when the weather gets colder: to do some knitting. But because of the lack of any yarn I decided to unwind one tube scarf I made a year ago of this super soft yarn... The scarf ended up being my favorite one until it stretched because of the "always right" knitting and it got sort of tufted. So I re-knitted it, but this time I did it really small on the diameter and "high".
As the scarf was really fast to do, the yarn's really heavy, I unwounded another ill-fated doing - one too big and thin cap. I had more of that soft peach yarn so I went with double thread and ended up doing a crocheted beanie of which I'm super proud as I didn't have any model for it, I just did it. :)

And then just totally random pic - a reflection of my necklace to the opposite wall. I just thought it was funny.

third time's the charm

This is not the luckiest outfit; I've worn (almost) this combination with slight variations about four times over the late summer&fall and this was the third time I took pics of it, but the first time the pics ended up decent... I might post some of the pics from previous session as there's a couple ok ones. And that outfit's not exactly like this one. But I'll get to that later, now some much needed sleep. :)
Btw, friends from work had several names for this variation - one thought I looked like a skipper, one thought I've escaped from 70's Paris. :)

Ok, I know my memory isn't the best always, but now I had a new reminder (hehe) how bad it can be. I've been struggling to find time for blogging, especially for taking pics and now I realized I had taken some and forgotten these. Well, here goes. Golden jeans are one funny item to pair clothes with... When I got these I had punch of ideas, then they all disappeared and wearing them seemed somewhat irrational, and then back to the "yey-golden-jeans-I'll-wear-these-all-the-time". Well, I ended up looking a bit like a stewardess... :) No-one said anything at the work though, I guess they are by now used to me wearing costume-like attires.

He always says he likes everything I wear, even the baggy and artsy ones, but I bet he's more into the feminine clothes... I was *a bit* excited about the launch of the Monki Online Store, so needless to say I bought a couple of items; this shirt and the over-knee socks. It's funny how sometimes you really like some garment and when buying it you can totally picture yourself in it, but you end up not wearing it as it seems somehow just not right every time when choosing what to wear. Well, here we have three of those kinds of items. My intention wasn't combining difficult items together, I just realized later when going through these pics.
The sheer dress is from Monki, bought it in the summer and this was probably the first time I'm wearing it. Fake leather skirt has got a bit more wear-time, I like the shape and all, but it always seems to be too short for work... And the purple wrap shirt is made (and designed) by me and I have no clue why I just don't wear it. :)

I wore this attire to one unofficial meeting at work. Super simple outfit, the overall take borrowed from mens fashion I guess. Being in touch with engineers even a hint of leopard might sometimes seem radical. :) The vast majority of male engineers seem to dress only functionally and conventionally. But this wasn't a statement against engineers, on a contrary. I'm just making notes, that's all. And I know a lot of well dressing engineers too. :)

I'm overwhelmed by joy for my relatives (from boyfriend's side :) ), they got a healthy baby girl and I would very much like to see her as soon as possible!
I'm going to London for work related trip the day after tomorrow, I'm so excited! But, it'll postpone seeing the newcomer... Haven't seen newborn baby in a while as most of my friends&relatives who have babies live in other cities. They're so tiny!
I need to get something for the baby from the trip, that is, if I have any time to do shopping from work.
And talking of which, another work outfit. The fabric of these pants is so soft, but it also crumples easily. The top is an old one I bought from NewYork, made of silk&metal (gold) fibre (not that the pics captured the gold that well). Wanted to test whether I'll start using it again, so this was a bit of a test drive. (btw, my facial express is in such a bad contrast to the joyous feelings, kinda funny.)

Outfit from last week. Still sick, but luckily this weekend we're at my parents', so we're both well taken care of. :) And I got three "new" skirts I found from mom's closet. Most of the fashion doesn't recycle fashion as exact pieces copied from certain era, but then again there are pieces like that. And so some second-hand and vintage pieces end up looking like they're new. Not that I mean vintage (or maybe what I mean is second-hand) should look like new or so, but couple of these skirts I found, look quite like just bought, I think.

one redheaded lady

Went to this lovely lady's concert. It was the start of her new tour and as she said herself the concert/tour was something she hadn't done before - it was almost like a classical concert, four bowed string instruments (and of course their players), two pianos and one woman! One third of the time she played both of the pianos at the same time! I can highly recommend and I hope I didn't spoil you anything, if you're a fan& interested. The only side effect of the concert (besides the amazing experience) is that I catch another flu, partly due to lack of sleep.
But yeah, style-wise I find her public image amazing, like the clothes she wears on her albums/photoshoots! And the pink silk gown she wore in yesterday's performance captured the colored lights beautifully changing the appearance of the dress. But of course the main thing is that she's amazing performer and artist! Still, look at those clothes and how she wears them, such graze!

(I could take any of these, fave is the leather pants&white silk dress)

Hope someone else had a bit more relaxing weekend than I did. Been doing interesting and somewhat nice things, but the side-effect has been the lack of time for other nice things, like blogging. :) I'm a part of a workroom where we sometimes do these artsy things of which we don't get any actual benefit. I manage to go to this once in a half year design market too, but more about that later.
I've been trying to transit my summer clothes into fall, here's what I wore last week. The burgundy knit is new in, I purchased it at summer and now it really gets wear-time.

I wore almost exactly the same outfit twice in a week or so. I was in a huge hurry one morning so I chose the same outfit I had wore to a sunday lunch with a friend. Only accessories where different and even though the 'base' and the style is the same, I think these are surprisingly different looks.

I found this leather skirt a couple of weeks back from Weekday's vintage collection. Just the kind of leather skirt I've been searching. And with leather it makes me happier it's used one. Yeah and the polo shirt was a found too, from a factory sale we went to with a couple friends. And third thing is I finally get to show an outfit with my diy necklace collar. florals for fall

Finally this skirt is ready! My original plan was to do a really simple summer skirt. Well, there wasn't enough fabric for what I had imagined (this piece of fabric was again one of those ready-cut chiffon pieces, left-overs and so). So I had to do it the hard way aka proper waistband etc. I have still one more chiffon piece, and as I'm *a bit* frustrated with the chiffon as a material at the moment (it so slippery to sew easily), I bet it'll have wait for a while.

So now that summer's over (at least over here) and as I wanted to wear the skirt, I had to wear it somehow more suitable for fall (and rain we had that day). The color combination (blue and green together with pink, quite not what I usually would wear) derived from the colors of the flowers in the fabric.
(Using loads of parenthesis, I noticed) Been so busy and/or exhausted that I haven't have time to post for a couple of days and now it takes longer than usually to choose what pics to use. A positive problem as this session went better than usually.

These fire brick trousers are new in. I associate this color to all the 90's 'earthy' colors - amber, mustard, all sort of red browns etc - that are now once again in fashion. If I recollect right, this is the first time since the 90's these types of colors are back, especially red-brick red. (Might be totally wrong though.) Really like the tone and feels like it goes well with all sorts of colors.

The necklace is old, should have worn it more often and I noticed it needs its own post... But that's another story.

Don't really know what to think about this skirt... I made it late this summer, but didn't really wear it until a week or two ago. I really like the colors, but they aren't really 'me'. I might change it into a cape/shirt thing then it might be easier to wear (as a skirt it's a bit too fairy/odd, isn't it). But anyway, I'm glad I made this test piece - it's always fun to try out new things and not play it safe.

An addition to previous post. Wanted to show the belt I'm wearing. It's a beaded belt my uncle brought to my mom some 30 years ago. He lives in Canada, hence the text in it. In overall this is not really *my style* (I'd prefer it with just the ornament beading you can see in the left side), but things like this make me smile and are sometimes perfect addition to an outfit.

I threw this outfit together in five (or less) minutes and later on when taking these pics I realised where all the sub-consious inspiration had derived from... This cape is new in and I did realised where it was copied from when I purchased it, but it wasn't only the cape in this outfit...

...but also what was 'under' that was pretty much Chloé fw11 inspired, so it seems. (note: not that I'm sure wether these two should have been combined though.)

Hermès's fw11 collection is one of my top favorites this season. I haven't really followed Hermès before, but their new head designer Christophe Lemaire's talent made a huge impression on me. I've been thinking what is it that strikes me in this collection, but maybe it is the type of woman the collection presents - a mystic hunter amazon, a globetrotter with a hint of art school cool. In my day dreams (or as a cartoon character) I'd like to be that kind of woman (but in reality I'm far from that)! :) Or maybe I'm just cap&scarf kinda gal, ha!

Well, seriously, I could take any of the garments - the cuts, colors, details, all are perfect. I tried to choose one (or two or three) of my absolute favorites but as you can see below, I couldn't... To understand (or analyse) which were the elements I like the most, I added some words.

Here's what I wore on Monday. I wore almost the same outfit to a professional seminar back in the end of spring, the only exception being a belt. (I like how belts have different effects on shirt dresses, especially loose ones like this.) In my profession people get to adjust themselves into certain kind of 'uniform' and I very much like to break from it. :)

All sorts of green with a hint of gold was the theme the day before. The shoes were on their first trip. Bought them from Amsterdam, I've saved them for fall! Don't know how I did that though. I think I got some (60's) mod touch to the outfit, especially with the jacket. Good change from the usual attires. The shirt is btw diy, it's second-hand (you know one of those 90's button-ups) of which I took the sleeves of.

I guess this was one of those colder summer days and my thoughts have been in fall colors. Now it's raining like the weather wants to highlight the fact it's officially fall. Sometimes it pays a reward to live in a town people don't seem to be that fashion-forward - I bought these jeans from HM for 7 euros, even though they had come to the sale just a month earlier. The shop assistant pointed that out to me, which was kind of cute. I'm really excited about the painted surface, it slightly reminds me of the Stella McCartney sweater. The color of the jeans is actually a bit yellower, I couldn't capture it to the pic.

Those became my favorites right away, one week and I've already worn them three times! :) I''m pretty pleased how this outfit turned out too. When trying to figure outor the first time what to wear with the pants, I realized loose t-shirts and any other relaxed top would look like wandering around in my pajamas...

My intention was to post this earlier but too many hobby things has been taking my time in last couple of days. :) Some of those later...
Here's some pics from the reception. I have divided opinions of my hairdo, it goes well with the dress, but it looks like I did it myself... And yes, I did went to a hairdresser. A bit awkward faces again, I'm such a lousy poser in public. People were passing by the restaurant and the security guy was standing just next to me...

And one pic to show a tiny bit of the decoration. My friend's still on their honeymoon, so without permission I don't like to show any other pics. The decoration suited the place so well, so beautiful.

Here's my mom's sketch from last spring

In order to get the open back done, we needed to do another dress under the silk chiffon one.

Here I'm trying out the silk chiffon fabric and ribbons for the dress.

For the dress under we used white "denim" silk that we dyed to suit the top lavender chiffon

The wedding was wonderful and the bride so beautiful! I'll show my dress in close days. I'm really pleased how it turned out! It's been such recovering from the wedding though. :)

Here's another self-made &-designed shirt. The fabric's from the same place as the earlier similar one. And the size of the piece and its condition pretty much ruled how it turned out. My hairdresser was sweet to give me compliments for my shirt, but I'm always so amazed how well she dyes. I'm so happy with my new hair color!

I've still got some outfit pics from this week's wearings. Here's a couple of days back with my old hairdo. Eager to show the ones with new hair dye, but those need to wait for a short while. I'm getting ready for my friend's upcoming nuptials tomorrow. The dress still needs some fixing...
I'm lucky to have mom who does atelier-level clothes as her hobby — just for fun! I've taken photos along the road, I hope I'll manage to do an interesting post about the different stages of the making of the dress. We'll see. I have an appointment at the hairdresser's at 10.30am, so tomorrow's gonna be hectic. Now some sleep!

Oh no, now I broke the promise. One last pic from the trip. But this one's an outfit pic, so maybe it doesn't count... Wearing a jumper I found for 7 euros from the summer sales. The size is xxs, so it's meant to be a LOT bigger (I'm usually 3 sizes bigger), but I like it very much this way. I bet I'll be wearing it quite a bit this fall. The skirt's fabric is a left-over from this.

Hellos from the bottom of my bed. I've catch a summer flu and I have a weekend full of activities coming. Blah. Here's what I wore to work a couple of days ago. I haven't shown any of the three pairs of shoes I bought from Amsterdam, but here's one of those. I've been opting for flats lately.
Btw, this was also the first time I wore these shorts I got this spring from H&M. I've been too pale, in my opinion to wear color so close to my skin tone. That would be actual nude impression. :)

White on white on white, this is the most white ensemble I've ever worn. Wanted to put up totally white outfit from what I could find in my wardrobe. Being clever, I took my beloved Converses to a festival last summer and they ended up are all grey. I should have seen that coming.
My friend had her birthday yesterday, and she had made a dinner with all sorts of meze food. So delicious! And this is how I went to the dinner. I'm totally surprised I didn't get any food stains! White clothes plus me equals food on the clothes, usually.

I found 4 meters of this fabric for 4 euros or something. Not the easiest item to style, I've noticed. Went like this for a little shopping spree before we left for a mini car tour on Wednesday. Two days of vacation left... :/

With all the colors, patterns, textures - like colored lace, 70's and 40's vibes etc in the fw2012 collections, there were surprisingly many all black attires. I guess, black is rarely news and in some collections quite regular, but for me it was a bit surprising to find head-to-toe black looks in Chloe's... The black chiffon dress is new in. Bought from Monki in Amsterdam. In fact I bought three pieces of clothes from the recent trip, all black... Hmm, maybe I'm getting ready for fall.
I love how versatile the black chiffon dress seems to be, the shape - when buttoned up and with belt- reminds 40's everyday dress, without belt it could work as a sort of artsy cape and as here, worn on Saturday, unbuttoned it's more like a vest.

Back from Amsterdam! It was such fun, but even better being back at home. Especially with this kind of welcome package: I got my new satchel!
I ordered this at the end of May and they would have delivered it last Friday, but as I was in Amsterdam, it got postponed 'till today. Quite long wait for a bag, I have to say...
I fell for this model the minute I saw it as I like my purses simple. :) I had no clue The Cambridge Satchel Company's satchels were as popular as they are in the blogosphere, until after I ordered the bag I started browsing all of what was published of the satchels as I was worried had I ordered the right colored bag for me. It's always a bit hard to evaluate from a screen wether the tone of the color is good. Pics and screens reproduce colors quite differently, but that's the risk one has to take when ordering online! ;) Living such a dangerous life... :)

I've had a pretty hectic past couple of weeks, especially last week. (Well, and the week before that too.) Finished one important project and lost some (a lot) sleeping time due to that. Still trying to recover from it. But I had so much fun doing the project and it definitely was worth it! :)

Here's the cape sort of thing I mentioned in an earlier post. Designed and made by me. There wasn't too many seams to sew, but ironing chiffon was haaard. Took me like 2 hours for such an easy model! Unlike you might think from the headline, I didn't dye the fabric. I got it as it appears from a fabric store for 2 euros! :) I liked the watercolor effect of the pattern and the sort of granny feeling it has.

This must be the comfiest dress I have. It feels like wandering in my nightgown... Hmm, I hope I didn't look like that too. :) The colors are 'stolen' from last winter, dark blue and grey were was all over, but I guess one can wear them in summer too... Sorry, I'm really really tired and all I have in my mind is stupid thoughts.
The scarf's probably the item I've wore the most this spring. It played the part of a jacket today as it was warmer for a change.

Seems like a skirt or dress with trousers is back. At least if we believe Acne resort 2012 collection. Well, it does look fresh again, especially the way Acne's done it - stylish and simple with good materials (and not the way I remember it with stretchy tricot trousers and skirts...). Hmm, have to try this if I find a proper combo from the closet.
